Projection Paintings

Swan Collective's paintings illuminate the relationship between two- and three-dimensional representation of spatiality. The artist group switches techniques and dimensions for each step in the creation of the projection paintings: First, the architectural template is created with a 3D animation program, which is then transferred by hand onto canvas, in order to finally calculate a light and shadow simulation with the computer, which is projected precisely onto the painting. The result is a digital collage of real painting and dynamic 3D animation that adds a temporal layer to the scene; the rigid architecture comes to life.
Die Malerei von Swan Collective beleuchtet das Verhältnis von zwei- und dreidimensionaler Repräsentation von Räumlichkeit. So wechselt das Künstlerkollektiv beim Erstellen der Projektionsmalereien für jeden Schritt die Technik und Dimension: Zuerst wird mittels eines 3D-Animationsprogramms die architektonische Vorlage erstellt, diese anschließend mit der Hand in Acryl auf Leinwand übertragen, um am Ende mit dem Computer eine Licht- und Schattensimulation zu berechnen, welche auf das Gemälde passgenau projiziert wird. Es entstehen digitale Collagen aus echter Malerei und dynamischen 3D-Animationen, welche das Bild um eine zeitliche Ebene erweitern; die starre Architektur erwacht zum Leben.
